dark-eyed juncos cast
above the rooftops
a moment synchronized
jacks repulsed by
a thundering plane
black backs gray underwings
rote nostalgia into
youth squinting towards
time before men walked
in metal tunnels in skies
to go without going
untie the sunshine
yellow balloons
from their wrists to
bob unsteadily through
the uncharted flocks
